STUDENT ESSAY CONTEST
The Mayor’s Interfaith Prayer Breakfast Planning Committee is seeking young writers to participate in a Personal Narrative Essay and Speech Contest.
Why? Because it’s important to include YOUR voices in this community event!
We are inviting students aged 13 to 19 from Lincoln, Nebraska who are in public, private, charter or home middle or high schools to submit a short, powerful, true story that shares a meaningful experience from your life. The story should address the theme, “Who is My Neighbor,” and must describe:
how your beliefs influenced you to be a good neighbor, or
how someone else was a good neighbor to you.
Entry into this competition means you agree 1) to present your essay aloud at the Interfaith Breakfast, if requested; and 2) if chosen to speak, you will attend one session to practice your essay with a coach designated by the committee.
Only one entry per student. All entries must be submitted by April 3, 2026 at 5:00 pm, Central Daylight Standard Time, using the official submission form.
The First Prize in this contest is $200; Second Prize is $150, and Third Prize is $125.
